About Me

I am a captive caretaker of three small terrorists and an exotic petting zoo. I try regularly to sneak college courses so one day I can leave this place.

college?

So how does one go to college to get an advanced degree while being the main care giver of three not so small people? I do not know. But I would really like to find out. Millions of women do it everyday, so I know that it is possible. It just might be a lot of sacrifice and hard work. I'm not real big on the hard work thing, that whole burning the candle at both ends is not my strong suit. Sacrifice....well as long as it's not sleep I think I can manage. Just imagine how interesting my blog will be if I can share some really crazy stories from school....

  1. It is hard to return to school with young children. It's helpful if you can go slow - one course at a time, but that will take a while. It's also good if the kids are the independent type and you have helpful neighbors and your mother lives nearby. You may lose some sleep and have to play catch-up Good luck.

  2. While I am not attaining an advanced degree it is a degree and ummm, you just push through it.

Some people are able to juggle it really well, one of my classmates is married, has two kids, works full-time, and still takes the same number of classes as I do. I don't know how she does it, she keeps her grades up and writing comes easier for her.

I tell Glen, I can't be a really good friend, mom, wife, housekeeper and student all at the same time. Something has to give. I feel like sometimes I put "really good student" too high at the top. My kids sacrifice sometimes. Like when I am up til 2 finishing a paper that I procrastinated on and am now waking up late and trying to get the kids to rush in the morning. And then I get cranky because, I'm tired and they are not rushing.

I feel like I am trying to get life to just wait until I finish school. I know it doesn't but I often wish it would. It was easier when Glen was in school too, but now that he is working and I am the sole survivor, it's really hard.

Enough of my whine, if your good at prioritizing(spelling??) and creating a schedule (and sticking to it) then you will be fine.

  3. I widh I had some words of wisdom for you. I went to school with one small child - you. I think you were traumatized by the whole thing. But your kids will have each other and that's good. The only other thing I can think of is don't focus on the whole picture too much just concentrate on the course you are taking. It sometimes seems more overwhelming than it actually is.
